II. Experience

Since 2005, CAUPD has been conducting service tracking and optimization of the urban design of Shenzhen Bay and its surrounding areas and the Convention and Exhibition City.

Planning and design series of Shenzhen Bay Park and its associated areas. For Houhai Center project beginning in 2005, the valet service provided by CAUPD ran through different stages of the urban design project, from the structural design at the very beginning to later development and evaluation and optimization. This process involved both technical and non-technical matters, such as collaborative management, task book of neighborhood design,conditions of design for international consultation in some important areas, all of which are the job content of the whole-process design.

Planning & chief planner service of Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition City. In the project started in 2006, CAUPD, participating in the "Double Chiefs" service of Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition City in the capacity of the chief planner team, offered alternative urban design centering mainly on technical consultation, and provided various advice on professional findings and judgment for decision-making reference, which was similar to "planning supervision". From deciding on the site and scale of the Convention and Exhibition Center to describing its specific form and assisting in its construction, CAUPD has been tracking the developments, providing services, and coping with any uncertain need arising in the future development of the center to the extend of the set infrastructure construction plan and by way of flexible space development strategy and whole-process valet service.

III. Reflection

The responsibility of planning and design. "Proactive thinking" is crucial to planning and design, which means a constant process of locating problems in the service, asking questions and solving them. The chief planner system is the way to achieve this goal, providing design service that is keeping up with the time and requiring only one blueprint to see the project through.

The system for implementing designs. It takes long-term, constant tracking to implement a design so as to be able to regulate the details and attend to each variable. This way, you are capable of deciding a better fulcrum for the optimization in the later stage.

The team of planning and design. The focus of each discipline in the team changes at different stages of the project, but the planner is irreplaceable. Urban design experts track and cope with various technical issues throughout the process, guide the review and approval, procedural adjustment and implementation of the projects, seeing to it that the overall space and landscape effect of the project, upon completion, meet the expectations of urban design.
