Project Profile of Shenzhen Railway Station and Luohu Port District by Shenzhen Branch
Time:2021-12-10

The Shenzhen Railway Station and Luohu Port District Urban Design Project is a collaborative effort between the Shenzhen Branch and Nikken Sekkei Ltd in a consortium, recognized by the first prize of International Urban Design Consultancy Award. The Shenzhen Railway Station and Luohu Port District represents a historic starting point for Shenzhen’s urban development, embodying the historic legacy of centuries of interactions between Guangdong Province and Hong Kong and 40 years of reform and opening up. Yet its days of glory are long gone, as the whole district struggles with weakened functions of a transport hub, marginalized role of an urban center and dilapidated urban space. Aspired to build the “Guangdong-Hong Kong Pivot with an All-Embracing Metropolis”, the design plan focuses on Shenzhen-Hong Kong cooperation, transport hub renewal and urban regeneration, in an effort to facilitate overall revitalization of the district.

Revitalized Momentum in Opening up of Luohu to Explore Shenzhen-Hong Kong Service Cooperation. Building on the cross-border land of the Lok Ma Chau Loop, three policy pilot zones with varying degree of opening up will be established to explore cooperation opportunities between Shenzhen and Hong Kong around peoples livelihood in the fields of health, education and consumption.

Multi-Modal Connectivity to Reshape Luohu Port’s Value as A Hub. By connecting with high-speed rail lines and relocating Hong Kong East Rail Line Station, the Luohu Port will be renovateda railway station with co-location clearance arrangement without downtime in its operations. It will upgrade Luohua gateway hub that connects Guangdong and Hong Kong with integrated links of intercity, high-speed and urban rail lines.

Integrated Design of Station and City to Create a Pioneering Hub of Station City. The station atrium will be utilized to reorganize the legacy transportation facilities with new ones, alongside integrated views of the Green Valley Park and Hong Kong landscape to create a vibrant station city.

Revived Network of Public Spaces to Invigorate Urban Revitalization. Across the regenerated urban network, public spaces of high quality are designed around Renmin South Road powerhouse for fashion consumption, innovative green space along the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Railway and Shenzhen River Landscape Belt to invigorate innovation and urban regeneration.
