Deng Dong
Vice President of China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, Professor-level Senior Urban Planner, Certified Urban Planner
He graduated from Southeast University in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in architecture and received a master’s degree in urban planning and design from Tsinghua University in 2002. Now he is the vice president of China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, Secretary General of the Academic Committee of Urban Planning Society of China, Vice President of China Association of City Planning, Secretary General of the Technical Committee on Urban Design of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and Member of the Technical Committee on Habitat of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development; Consultant of national urban design, urban renewal, ecological restoration and urban repair of the former Ministry of Construction; Now he is a doctoral candidate of Innovation Leading D.Eng. Project of Tsinghua University.
In 2009, he was selected as a national talent of the National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talents Project; in 2011, he received the special government allowance of the State Council; in 2012, he was awarded the National May 1 Labor Medal; in 2011 and 2012, he was awarded as an advanced individual in the post-earthquake reconstruction of Yushu, Qinghai Province; in 2015, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, USA; and in 1997, he was a visiting scholar at Cardiff University, UK.
Deng Dong has more than 30 years of practical experience in urban planning and urban design, specializing in theoretical and methodological research and engineering implementation and construction in the field of urban design and urban regeneration at multi-dimensional spatial scales. His projects have won many national and provincial awards, including 4 first prizes of National Excellent Urban and Rural Planning and Design Award, 1 prize of China Award for Science and Technology in Construction, 2 prizes of National Excellent Engineering Survey and Design Award, 2 prizes of National Excellent Engineering Design Awards, 10 second and third prizes of National Excellent Urban and Rural Planning and Design Awards, and over 10 prizes of Provincial Excellent Urban and Rural Planning and Design Awards. He has published dozens of papers at home and abroad and published the translation of The City Assembled in 2008.
He has led the preparation of master planning and urban design for many national key projects and major regions. He has been involved in the planning, design and implementation of post-disaster reconstruction projects in Yushu, Qinghai, urban design for the start-up area of Xiong’an New Area, the planning, design and implementation of urban repair and ecological restoration in Sanya, the planning and design of the environmental development project foe Beijing Olympics, urban design and implementation of Chongqing CBD, as well as master planning and urban renewal in Lhasa, Suzhou, Sanya, Shaoxing and Huzhou. He has participated in the drafting of the Ministry of Constructions Urban Planning and Urban Renewal Project. He has participated in drafting the “Urban Design Regulations” of the former Ministry of Construction and has been responsible for the preparation of regulatory documents such as the “Technical Guidelines for Ecological Restoration and Urban Repair” (promulgated) and research projects such as the “Study on the Long-term Mechanism of Urban Repair and Renewal”.
