Mr. WANG Jiazhuo serves as Deputy Chief Engineer of the China Academy of Urban Planning and Design (CAUPD) and the Director General of the Eco-City Institute of CAUPD Beijing Planning and Design Consultants Ltd. With a background in environmental engineering, Mr. WANG graduated from Tsinghua University in 2007 and joined CAUPD in the same year. Mr. WANG holds various concurrent positions: Member of the Technical Steering Committee of Sponge City Construction under the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), Visiting Professor at the National Academy for Mayors(the training institution for officials under MOHURD), the Secretary General of the Sponge City Construction Committee of the China Urban Water Association, the Executive Director of the International Water Resources Association (IWRA) Chinese Chapter, and the Deputy Director of the Water Committee of the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development.
Throughout his career, Mr. Wang has focused on research, planning and design of urban drainage, sponge city, water environment governance, and urban waterlogging management. He has been extensively involved in the preparation of State Office and ministerial documents, as well as the drafting of industry technical guidelines, standards, and codes. He was responsible for the planning, design, and technical consulting for water environment governance, urban waterlogging management, and sponge city development in several cities, including Wuhan, Haikou, Nanning, Shijiazhuang, Yinchuan, Xiamen, Shenyang, Chengdu, and beyond. He has led the expert team of urban waterlogging working group during the investigation by the State Council on the 7.20 Zhengzhou rainstorm disaster in 2021. His works of excellence in planning and design has been recognized by over 20 awards.
